Vietnam International Challenge: Hafiz Faisal and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth claim Mixed Doubles title
Indonesia’s newly formed couple Hafiz Faisal and Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth proved their mettle as they claimed Mixed Doubles title at Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012 in Vietnam, on Sunday, April 1.
In the final clash, Faisal and Bernadeth who were fifth seeds in Mixed Doubles draw, put up spectacular show of attacking badminton and stunned the top seeds Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Yu Yan Vanessa Neo of Singapore in a convincing fashion.
The lower ranked Indonesians found a slow start and lost the opening game but fought back in the match and bagged the following both games and claimed the crown in 55 minutes.
On the other hand, the top seeded Singaporean shuttlers started the title match in an impressive manner but they failed to maintain their upper hand and lost the contest with a decent margin.
In the first set, the top seeded Singaporeans played fascinating badminton as they did not miss any chance to earn pressure and remained successful in taking a remarkable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Faisal and Bernadeth tried to reduce the deficit by changing their tactics in the game but failed to get the mark and lost the game with a huge margin of 11-21.
However, it was a completely different story in the second game when Faisal and Bernadeth showed their brilliance by playing at their best speed. They remained successful in getting a strong position by taking a reasonable lead.
The Indonesians continued their elevated performance throughout the second set without letting their rivals to fight back in the game. Faisal and Bernadeth took the second set with a 21-17 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both sides played aggressive badminton by executing powerful smashes and strong pushes. The score was close until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, Faisal and Bernadeth geared up their speed and occupied the driving seat. They played with precision in the concluding half and clinched the deciding set with a margin of 21-17.
Faisal and Bernadeth won the final fight in 55 minutes with a thrilling 11-21, 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
