Vietnam International Challenge: Ricky Karanda Suwardi, Muhamad Ulinuha clinch Men’s Doubles title
Indonesia’s spirited shuttlers Ricky Karanda Suwardi and Muhamad Ulinuha showed their impressive craft and secured Men’s Doubles title at the Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012 on Sunday, April 1, in Vietnam.
In the final clash, Suwardi and Ulinuha tamed their compatriots Gideon Markus Fernaldi and Agripinna Prima Rahmanto Putra and emerged as crown winners.
The un-seeded Suwardi and Ulinuha surprised everyone when they delivered a sensational performance against their higher ranked team-mates and won the final contest in just 25 minutes without facing any considerable resistance.
On the other hand, the second seeds Gideon and Agripinna could not live up to expectations as they received a severe treatment from their lower ranked country-mates and lost the contest in straight games.
In the first game, Suwardi and Ulinuha played flawless badminton as they did not lose their focus and also kept the pace at the maximum level.
Their shot selection was remarkable in the court and they did not miss any chance to bury the bird in their rival’s court.
Until the one-minute interval, Suwardi and Ulinuha were in strong position as they established a remarkable lead until the one-minute interval in the first set.
After the break, Suwardi and Ulinuha continued playing fast badminton and also maintained pressure on their challengers in the whole concluding phase.
They ended the opening set in a fascinating fashion by putting up a fabulous 21-12 score on the board.
In the second game, Gideon and Agripinna changed their style of play and matched the speed of their rivals. They did not drop their speed this time and remained in complete control of the pace.
Until the end of first half, the score remained tight on the board from both sides.
After the interval, Suwardi and Ulinuha tried to take advantage in the match by dominating the game at net but could not find any benefit as their opponents were quicker this time.
The score was tight in the ending phase of second set when Suwardi and Ulinuha showed a gutsy performance and managed to win the game with a 21-19 score on the board.
Suwardi and Ulinuha ended the final contest in just 25 minutes with an impressive margin of 21-12 and 21-19.
