Vietnam International Challenge: Robin Gonansa tames Adulrach Namkul in Men’s Singles second round
Singapore’s experienced player Robin Gonansa showed his elevated skills as he tamed Thailand’s Adulrach Namkul in Men’s Singles second round of Ciputra Hanoi Vietnam International Challenge 2012 in Vietnam, on Thursday, March 29.
Gonansa, who is seeded at number nine in Men’s Singles draw of the championship, proved his worth against his lower ranked Thai opponent and ended the match in a tremendous fashion.
The higher ranked Singaporean played dominating badminton in the whole match and finished it in straight games by consuming 40 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, Namkul put up good resistance in both games but failed to dictate the pace of rallies at ending stages and eventually lost the fight with a decent score on the board.
Gonansa showed aggression in the opening points of first game but failed to create pressure on his opponent who was also playing at the same speed.
Both men entertained the local crowd with their positive and attacking play in the opening half.
However, it was the higher ranked Singaporean who remained successful in getting a strong position by setting up a reasonable gap on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Namkul tried to push his rival on back foot by accelerating his speed at net but failed to execute his strokes effectively.
In the meanwhile, Gonansa remained positive and quicker in all areas and ended the opening game with a four-point margin of 21-17.
In the second game, both men again showed an impressive show of fast badminton as they played to their maximum speed and progressed closely.
No one could manage a comfortable gap in the opening half as the score remained close until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Gonansa again played planned game and controlled the pace of rallies. He remained dominant in the concluding part of second set by playing with a wonderful aggression.
The Singaporean did not let his opponent to level the score at any stage in the ending part and grabbed the second set with a 21-17 margin on the score board.
Gonansa won this straight-set encounter in 40 minutes with a convincing margin of 21-17 and 21-17.
