Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012: Alamsyah Yunus beats Shih Hua Teng to surge into round-of-16
Indonesia’s upcoming player Alamsyah Yunus advanced into Men’s Singles round-of-16 but not before putting all of his skills to beat his talented opponent Shih Hua Teng of Chinese Taipei in second round battle at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 22.
The higher ranked Yunus, who is the fourth seeded in Men’s Singles main draw in Vietnam Open, had to dig into his arsenal for showing exit to his un-seeded Taipei opponent in a hard-fought contest.
The fourth seeded Indonesian failed to show his aggression on court in opening set and eventually lost it. However, he did not let the match slip from his hands as he put up spectacular show in the following games and won the battle in an emphatic fashion.
The lower ranked Shih Hua, in the meanwhile, also showed his lofty skills on court as he grabbed the first game. But he could not maintain his positive and aggressive run and lost the following two sets and crashed out in the second round.
Both shuttlers started their campaign in an attacking fashion as they employed powerful smashes and remained toe-to-toe until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the higher ranked Yunus increased his speed at net but failed to control the bird and also failed to respond the well execute smashes of his Taipei rival.
Indonesian shuttler could not prove his mettle in opening set of the match and lost it with a 16-21 score on the board.
In the second game, it was a completely different story when Yunus showed his class by becoming aggressive. He played attacking badminton all the way to set up a huge lead until the break.
The spirited Yunus continued his roller-coaster run without losing his focus and finished off the set with a tremendous 21-10 score on the board.
The final set was completely one-sided when Yunus played in the similar fashion against Shih Hua who became slow.
The power play and positive approach of Yunus helped him to grab the finals set with a crushing margin of 21-8.
Yunus emerged as the winner against Shih Hua in rubber sets with an entertaining 16-21, 21-10 and 21-8 score on the board.
