Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012: Tien Minh Nguyen emerges as Men’s Singles title winner
Vietnam’s most decorated shuttler Tien Minh Nguyen did not disappoint his home fans as he grabbed Men’s Singles title after putting up staggering show of impressive badminton in the final battle when he overpowered Japan’s Takuma Ueda at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 on Sunday, August 26, in Vietnam.
The impressive Tien Minh, who was placed at the top in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, showed his elevated craft on court in the title match and easily wrapped up victory by crushing his lower ranked Japanese opponent.
The World Number 14 Tien Minh played in a commanding fashion as he did not let his rival to dictate the pace of rallies and finished off this final clash in straight games by taking the court time for 50 minutes.
The sixth seeded Ueda, on the contrary, could not stretch his impressive run as he failed to live up to the expectations in the final encounter. He found himself helpless against the power play of his higher ranked rival and lost the battle without grabbing any game.
The opening set was quite interesting but just for a few rallies when both men put up wonderful show of attacking badminton.
However the Vietnamese shuttler played with precision and started to control the affairs of the game and took a reasonable lead until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Tien Minh showed wonderful progress by gearing up his speed and extended the gap on score board while remaining fully focused on the board.
The local shuttler was in superb form on court as he easily finished up the first set with a convincing 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, Ueda put up strong resistance while remaining quick in all areas of the court and progressed equally on the board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Tien Minh had to dig deep into his arsenal and remained successful in finishing off the second game with a close score of 21-19.
The top seeded Tien Minh won the final battle in an emphatic fashion by a wonderful 21-14 and 21-19 score on the board.
