Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Arundhati Pantawane punishes Jing Yi Tee in Women’s Singles round-of-16
India’s Arundhati Pantawane remained on the right track as she qualified for the Women’s Singles quarter-final after punishing Malaysia’s Jing Yi Tee in the round-of-16 match at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, on Thursday, August 25, in Vietnam.
By beating the Malaysian shuttler, Pantawane proved that she has the ability to penetrate into the row of Women’s Singles elite shuttlers in the world of badminton. In her match against Jing Yi, she remained composed and never lost her focus even for a single
rally. Pantawane won the battle in straight games of 41 minutes by playing to her maximum potential.
The dedication and commitment of the Indian earned her a much needed victory over the Malaysian and also helped her in reaching the top-8 stage in the tournament. Pantawane is determined to continue her winning streak in the quarter-final, which will be
played in the evening today.
In the first game of the pre-quarter-final match, both females grabbed the attention of the crowd by employing their wonderful skills and progressed with equal pace in the match. No shuttler could manage a clear position in the opening half as the score
remained tight.
The thrill continued in the second part of the opening set when both ladies remained close without letting their opponent to dominate the pace of the game. The score entered into the breathtaking stage of 21-21, when the Indian played some fascinating strokes
by anticipating the bird early and scored the remaining points to grab the first game by a 23-21 margin, in 22 minutes.
In the second set of this round-of-16 encounter, both females continued playing top-class badminton and kept the crowd engaged. The score again was close until the ending points of the match where both shuttlers were trying hard to finish off the game.
It was the Indian again, who score two consecutive points to end the second set with a 21-19 margin, in 19 minutes. Pantawane won this entertaining fight with a 23-21 and 21-19 score on the board.
