Beng Hong played wonderful badminton against the number 10 seed Singaporean and emerged as the winner after playing to his full potential for three sets of 52 minutes. The Malaysian proved that he has the talent to become a world-class shuttler and follow
the footsteps of the top Malaysian shuttler, Lee Chong Wei.
In the first set of the match, both players opened the game with wonderful speed and remained toe-to-toe until the 60-second break. After the interval, Beng Hong became a little slow which helped Yong Zhao to find a good flow and build a lead in the concluding
phase of the match. Beng Hong failed to stop his opponent as he made many mistakes and lost the set by a decent score of 18-21, in 22 minutes.
In the following game, Beng Hong came back into the court with an aggressive approach as he played attacking badminton and progressed with great pace without facing any resistance. Yong Zhao failed to continue his impressive run in this game as his opponent
was not sparing any room to place strokes. The powerful smashes of Beng Hong earned him a wonderful position in the match and he eventually won the set with the margin of 21-14, in 16 minutes.
Beng Hong was flying in the court in the final set of this Men’s Singles fight when he reached at 11-5 in a flash. His sharp reflexes coupled with amazing anticipation put him on the right track as his opponent was moving slowly in the court. Beng Hong finished
off the set by winning it with the score of 21-11, in just 14 minutes. The end result of this pre-quarter-final battle was 18-21, 21-14 and 21-11.
In the quarter-final, Beng Hong will be up against India’s in-form shuttler, R.M.V Gurusaidutt, who defeated the seventh seed, Jen Hao Hsu of Chinese Taipei in the round-of-16.
