Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka knocks out Tien Chen Chou in quarter-final contest
Indonesia’s in-form player Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka proved his elevated craft on court as he secured his place in Men’s Singles semi-final after knocking out Chinese Taipei’s Tien Chen Chou in the quarter-final showdown at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012
on Friday, August 24, in Vietnam.
The second seeded Rumbaka, who is currently placed at number 20 in Men’s Singles world ranking, played dominating badminton all the way to register a comprehensive win over the eighth seeded Tien Chen in just 38 minutes.
The impressive Indonesian was in tremendous form as he did not face any problem in taking the bird early from all areas and managed to end up the winning run on his lower ranked rival in straight sets with an inspiring difference on the board.
In the meanwhile, the eighth seeded Taipei shuttler played good badminton but not enough to push his rival on back foot at any stage of the match. He crashed out at the quarter-final stage by losing the fight in two games without shaking the boat of his
Indonesian opponent.
The opening game was interesting when both shuttlers found a good start but Rumbaka took over the control and remained successful in taking a convincing lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Rumbaka played with precision and remained positive in the execution of strokes. He did not let the pressure to mount over him at any stage and eventually got advantage in the match by winning the first game with a comfortable difference
of 21-15.
In the following set, Tien Chen also showed his brilliance as he matched the speed and skills of his Indonesian rival by increasing his speed and remained close on score board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Rumbaka changed his tactics at net and started to employ deceptive shots which worked well in his favour and he pushed his rival on back foot away from the net.
The planned play of Indonesian shuttler helped him to snatch the second game from his Taipei opponent with a 21-18 score on the board.
The higher ranked Rumbaka won this quarter-final contest in just 38 minutes by a reasonable margin of 21-15 and 21-18.
