Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Keigo Sonoda trounces Kwong Beng Chan in the Men’s Singles second round
Japan’s talented shuttler, Keigo Sonoda showed no mercy to Malaysia’s Kwong Beng Chan and won the battle with considerable ease in the Men’s Singles second round of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 24, 2011.
Sonoda has improved a lot in all aspects of the game during the last couple of years and he delivered a superb performance against the Malaysian in the second round battle. The number 14 seeded Japanese played terrific badminton in the whole match and finished
it in straight games by working for only 35 minutes in the court.
Japanese shuttlers are catching up with top shuttlers in the arena of badminton with a wonderful speed as they are getting a high level of skills by working hard in all aspects of the game. While playing against Kwong Beng of Malaysia, Sonoda proved that
he has also attained the skills necessary to enter into the arena of elite shuttlers.
Right from the initial points of the opening game, the Japanese established his dominance in the match by playing at a high speed and kept his opponent moving in all corners. His wonderful smashes coupled with fast drop shots made his rival struggle in picking
the bird early.
The Japanese played planned badminton as he was cleverly targeting the weak points of his challenger. He bagged the opening set with a wonderful score of 21-12, by taking 17 minutes of court time.
In the second game, Kwong Beng tried to employ a changed strategy to stop the aggression of his opponent but he failed because of the fast speed of the Japanese. Sonoda executed impressive strokes from all areas of the court and maintained wonderful pressure
on his rival throughout the match.
The Japanese finished off the second set in impressive fashion with the margin of 21-13 by taking 18 minutes. Sonoda emerged victorious against the Malaysian in this Men’s Singles second round contest in 35 minutes, with a 21-12 and 21-13 score on the board.
