Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Lindaweni Fanetri stuns Eriko Hirose in Women’s Singles quarter-final
Indonesia’s talented female shuttler Lindaweni Fanetri surged into Women’s Singles semi-final as she proved her worth in the quarter-final clash by giving a shocking treatment to her higher ranked rival Eriko Hirose of Japan at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix
2012 on Friday, August 24, in Vietnam.
The un-seeded Lindaweni, who has been putting up tremendous show in all of her battles in Vietnam Open, continued her impressive winning streak at quarter-final stage as she played to her maximum potential and created a huge upset by beating second seeded
Hirose in a thrilling contest.
The in-form Lindaweni lost the opening set as she was not in good rhythm. However, she put up gutsy show of top class badminton in the following both games and won the match with an inspiring margin on the board.
The higher ranked Hirose, on the contrary, took the opening set easily as she was in commanding position. Nevertheless, she lost her focus and rhythm in the following sets and knelt down to her un-seeded rival in three games.
The opening game went according to the expectations when the heavy favourite Hirose played with precision and easily took a remarkable lead until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Lindaweni tried to play attacking badminton but failed to take any benefit against her in-form challenger and lost the set with a margin of 14-21.
In the second set, Lindaweni showed her brilliance as she played positive and fast badminton and created pressure on her higher ranked opponent by taking a huge lead until the break.
After the one-minute interval, the impressive Indonesian shuttler continued putting up entertaining show and easily won the set with an incredible 21-10 score on the board.
In the deciding game, Lindaweni remained consistent in her commanding play and again set up a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
After the break, Lindaweni did not allow her Japanese rival to close the gap and remained ahead all the way to end up the game with a superb difference of 21-14.
The underdog Lindaweni remained successful in winning the quarter-final match with an interesting 14-21, 21-10 and 21-14 score on the board.
