Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif thrashes Nan Wei in Men’s Singles second round
The spirited Mohamad Arif Abdul Latif, who is one of the most promising shuttlers from Malaysia, showed his elevated craft and proved his worth by beating Hong Kong’s Nan Wei in Men’s Singles second round at the 2012 Vietnam Open Grand Prix in Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 22.
The in-form Arif, who is positioned at number 12 in Men’s Singles seeding in the tournament, showed a wonderful performance on court as he did not spare any mercy for his rival and overpowered him in a commanding fashion.
The higher ranked Arif was in fantastic form as he played positive and aggressive badminton all the way to outplay his Hong Kong opponent in straight games in just 36 minutes with a tremendous margin on the score board.
Meanwhile, the un-seeded Nan failed to show his brilliance as he tried to play aggressive badminton but could not live up to expectations and eventually lost the contest without showing a strong resistance to his higher ranked challenger.
The opening game was thrilling in opening rallies as both shuttlers pulled the trigger by playing at their best speed and remained close.
However, Arif started to put up strong show by controlling the pace of rallies and remained successful in building a reasonable lead until the end of first half.
After the one-minute interval, the Hong Kong shuttler tried to change the course of the game by playing attacking badminton but failed to shake the balance of his rival.
On the other hand, Arif continued putting up strong show by maintaining his upper hand on court as he pushed his opponent in all areas of the court and eventually ended up the opening game with a commanding 21-9 score on the board.
In the second game, Arif remained aggressive from starting points as he played safe and aggressive badminton to maintain his positive position on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the spirited Malaysian increased his speed by playing aggressive badminton and remained composed on score board.
The planned and positive game of Arif helped him to end up the second set with a fantastic margin of 21-15.
Arif emerged as the winner in this interesting clash in straight games with a 21-9 and 21-15 margin on the score board.
