Vietnam Open Grand Prix: P.V. Sindhu overwhelms Shih Han Hung in the Women’s Singles first round
India’s emerging star, P.V. Sindhu delivered a remarkable performance in the Women’s Singles first round when she overwhelmed Chinese Taipei’s Shih Han Hung at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Wednesday, August 24.
The spirited Sindhu played wonderful badminton against the Taipei shuttler throughout the match, which took three sets of top-class badminton from both sides. In every set of the encounter, both shuttlers remained neck-to-neck and the result of this 67 minute
battle went in favour of the Indian who won the match with a very close margin.
Both shuttlers opened the game with a fast speed and maintained it throughout the whole set. The Indian was playing with aggression while her opponent was relying on the drives. Both ladies remained fully focused in the opening set and the score also remained
equal until the concluding points. Sindhu made a critical mistake in the ending points which resulted in her loss in the first set with a narrow margin of 22-24, in 23 minutes.
The second game of this tough fight was also full of thrill as both players again put up a wonderful show of quality badminton. The powerful smashes, tumbling net shots and perfect drives made the match more interesting for the local crowd. The score remained
close until the ending points of the second set, where Sindhu played a better game and won the game with the score of 25-23, in 25 minutes.
In the third game of this interesting clash, Sindhu was struggling in the first-half as she became a little slow when compared to her challenger. However, the Indian found her momentum in the second-half of the final game, which created thrill in the ending
points of the match as both shuttlers were on their toes.
However, it was Sindhu who played impressive badminton at the end and won the set with a dramatic margin of 21-19, by taking 19 minutes. This wonderful Women’s Singles battle ended with the margin of 22-24, 25-23 and 21-19.
