Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Porntip Buranaprasertsuk outplays P. C. Thulasi in round-of-16 clash
Thailand’s Porntip Buranaprasertsuk showed her tremendous class as she stormed into Women’s Singles quarter-final after taming India’s P. C. Thulasi in round-of-16 battle at Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 on Thursday, August 23, in Vietnam.
The in-form Porntip, who is top seeded shuttler in main draw of Women’s Singles category, showed a wonderful performance and easily outshined her lower ranked Indian opponent without facing any problem.
The tops seeded Thai player proved her remarkable skills by putting up staggering show of controlled badminton and managed to win the match in straight games by consuming just 35 minutes on court.
In the meanwhile, the un-seeded Thulasi could not continue her positive and winning run in the pre-quarter-final battle as she failed put up strong resistance against Porntip and bowed down to her without snatching any set.
The higher ranked Thai shuttler started the opening set in a controlled manner and played with impressive speed which helped her to take an early lead without facing any trouble.
The in-form Porntip continued her commanding run on court and took a comfortable lead on the board until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Thulasi tried to match the speed of her higher ranked Thai opponent but she could not execute her shots effectively and remained struggling on court.
On the other hand, Porntip was focused on composed as she played with confidence and easily took the first set with a comfortable 21-15 margin on score board.
In the following set, Thulasi also showed glimpses of her brilliance as she played with precision and managed to stay close on score board at the opening stage.
However, Porntip geared up her speed and played attacking badminton and eventually took a reasonable lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Porntip continued showing her dominating skills on court without slowing down the pace and eventually overpowered her Indian rival by ending up the second game with a 21-16 score on the board.
The impressive Porntip emerged as the winner in this Women’s Singles round-of-16 with a striking margin of 21-15 and 21-16.
