Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Soo Young Jang powers his way into the Women’s Singles main round
Korea’s Soo Young Jang secured her berth in the Women’s Singles main round after defeating Japan’s Kana Ito in the qualifying round of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Tuesday, August 23.
The Korean shuttler had to dig deep into her reserves to win the match against the spirited Japanese in the three-set battle which finished off in 73 minutes. It was one of the best fights of the day where the score remained close in all three sets.
Right from the start of the first game, both players delivered a wonderful performance by playing quality badminton and reached at 10-10. In the opening half of the set, nobody could establish a strong position in the match as the score was quite close.
The score progressed in the same way and reached 21-21 as the Japanese played well, whereas, the Korean made a crucial mistake and lost the set with a 21-23 margin in 26 minutes.
The second set of the match was also interesting as it was almost similar to the opening game of the match. It was a tight match as both players seemed to play at the same level by matching the speed of the opponent. The score remained tied until 17-17,
when the Korean accelerated her speed to clinch the second game with a score of 21-19, in 24 minutes.
Both ladies continued their wonderful run in the match by playing to their maximum skill in the third and final game. In the first part of the set, the score remained tight as no one could build a comfortable gap. The match entered into the final phase when
the Korean lifted up her level of play and dominated the rallies in the ending points.
Young Jang played some incredible strokes with a great touch of perfection and won the game with a 21-19 margin in 23 minutes. This Women’s Singles qualifying round fight finished in 73 minutes with a 21-23, 21-19 and 21-19 score on the board.
