Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Takuma Ueda hammers Arvind Bhat to storm into Men’s Singles semi-final
Takuma Ueda, a spirited shuttler from Japan, stormed into Men’s Singles semi-final after delivering a gutsy performance against India’s Arvind Bhat in quarter-final showdown at the Vietnam Open Grand prix 2012 on Friday, August 24, in Vietnam.
The aggressive Ueda, who has been seeded at number six in Men’s Singles main draw of the event, displayed his hard-to-learn skills and ended up the winning run of Arvind by finishing off the battle in straight games.
The higher ranked Takuma was in his best form while playing against his Indian opponent and he remained successful in winding up the clash in two sets while consuming just 40 minutes on court.
The un-seeded Arvind, who has been putting up incredible show of top quality badminton in his previous matches, failed to continue his giant killing run against the Japanese shuttler and lost to him without snatching any set.
The opening game was completely one-sided and also shocking for the Indian shuttler as Ueda played with impressive speed and control in his shots.
The Japanese shuttler was confident in his play and he did not let Arvind to put up strong resistance by keeping the pace of rallies at the highest level.
The planned and aggressive play of Ueda helped him to take a wonderful lead until the end of opening half.
After the mid-game interval, Ueda continued putting up remarkable show while remaining positive and focused on court.
The Japanese player manipulated all weaknesses of Arvind and eventually won the set with a smashing 21-8 score on the board.
In the following set, Arvind also showed good resistance as he matched the speed and skills of his rival from opening points and remained stick around on score board until the one-minute break.
After the interval, Ueda started to execute deceptive shots which helped him to take a reasonable lead.
The Japanese shuttler played smart badminton in the ending points of second set and ultimately won it with a decent score of 21-17.
The sixth seeded Ueda emerged as the winner against Arvind in this quarter-final battle with a staggering 21-8 and 21-17 margin on the score board.
