Vietnam Open Grand Prix: Yin Fun Lim defeats Chiew Sien Lim in the Women’s Singles qualifying round
Malaysia’s Yin Fun Lim entered into the Women’s Singles main round as she defeated team-mate, Chiew Sien Lim in the qualifying round of the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on August 23.
Yin Fun emerged as the winner in the rubber-set match after playing wonderful badminton for 50 minutes. She remained focused in the match proving that she has achieved good skills and overwhelmed her compatriot after a hard fight.
In the opening game of the match, both players employed their skills at the net and in the rear court to dominate the pace of the game, but nobody could manage a lead. The score remained tied as the game was proceeding at the same pace from both sides. At
the end of the opening half, Yin Fun was leading with a small margin of 11-10.
After the break, the fight started again in similar fashion as both players kept the pace at the maximum level to dominate the game by putting pressure on her opponent. However, Yin Fun played some negative strokes in the concluding phase of the first set
and lost it with the margin of 19-21, in 18 minutes.
The second set was completely different as Yin Fun came in the court with a new strategy. She started to rely on net strokes which forced Chiew Sien to lift the bird high in the air and helped her challenger to execute powerful smashes. Yin Fun hit the bird
hard in the gaps of her rival’s court and levelled the match by bagging the second game with the difference of 21-16, in just 15 minutes.
The final set of this interesting match grabbed the attention of the local crowd as both shuttlers were putting their best in the battle. They were not giving up until the score reached in the ending phase where Yin Fun played mature badminton and emerged
as the winner with the score of 21-19, in 17 minutes.
This wonderful 50-minute match ended with the result of 19-21, 21-16 and 21-19.
