Vietnam Open Grand prix: Singapore’s Mingtian Fu hammers Desi Hera in Women’s Singles round-of-16
Singapore’s emerging star, Mingtian Fu powered her way into Women’s Singles quarter-final after trouncing Desi Hera of Indonesia in their round-of-16 fight at the 2011 Vietnam Open Grand Prix, in Vietnam, on Thursday, August 25.
Singaporean shuttlers are catching up with top badminton nations with their growing skills and Mingtian displayed the same skills against the Indonesian shuttler and won the battle in straight sets by working hard for 42 minutes in the court. She proved
her dominance throughout the whole match by playing flawless badminton.
Mingtian controlled the pace of the game right from the starting points of the opening set as she was very quick in picking the bird early from the net and also from the rear court. However, Hera also played top standard badminton and progressed closely
with her rival until the concluding phase where she made some crucial mistakes. Mingtian got an advantage from the negative strokes of her opponent and won the set with the score of 21-18, in 24 minutes.
In the following game of this Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final match, the Singaporean went all out to dominate the game with wonderful control in her wrist. She made her opponent work really hard to get the bird from all corners of the court. Her impressive
strokes landed in the perfect areas and she earned a strong position in the game.
Until the interval in the second set of this Women’s Singles battle, Mingtian established a four-point lead by reaching at 11-7. Hera tried to level the score in the first-half as she started to play attacking badminton but she could not employ her strokes
effectively.
After the break, the Indonesian tried to become fast at the net to dominate the rallies but her challenger was playing perfect net strokes which disturbed the accuracy of Hera. Mingtian continued her impressive winning run in the concluding part of the match
and won it with the wonderful margin of 21-14. This straight-set match ended in 42 minutes with a 21-18 and 21-14 score on the board.
