Vietnam defeats Iran by 3-1 to earn 7th place in 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship
The 7th place decider for the 16th Asian Senior Women's Volleyball Championship took place on the 23rd of September in Taipei, Chinese Taipei. Vietnam and Iran were the seventh place hopefuls as locked horns in a four set battle in
which the Vietnamese were celebrated a well earned victory over Iran by 3-1.
The opening set of the game was completely dominated by the Vietnamese as the Iranians had a hard time stabilising. After a first set loss, the Iranians managed to come out strong in the second set and give the Vietnamese some tough competition. However,
Vietnam did not loosen its grip and bagged another win. Iran was able to avoid a clean sweep by taking the third set after an impressive display of volleyball skill but they lost the fourth set in a smothering fashion, giving Vietnam the match at the following
final set scores: 25-14, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-11.
The first set of the match started off with a Vietnamese leading after which they stretched their advantage and did not let go of it until the very end. It did not take Vietnam long to assert themselves as the opening set ended within 19 minutes. Vietnam
was able to dominate Iran in almost all aspects of the match including both the attack and defence. The Vietnamese hitters rained down relentless spikes on Iran and stopped their attacks by strong blocking skills, securing the opening set at 25-14.
The Iranians were able to step up their game in the second set and stay neck to neck with the Vietnamese. Eventually the Vietnamese were able to pull free and head towards another win at 25-23.
The Vietnamese defence slowed down in the third set of the game and Iran readily took advantage of it to shift the momentum and take the lead at 16-12 with the coming of the second technical time out. Iran avoided a sweep by securing the third set at 25-18.
The first technical time out of the fourth set came with a Vietnamese lead at 8-4 which quickly stretched to 16-9. After that point, it was an easy win for Vietnam at 25-11.
The player that was able to register the highest number of points was P.T.K. Kue belonging to Vietnam. She was able to post a total number of 17 points in the entire match. Kue was helped by her team-mate P.T. Yen who made her presence felt by adding 11
points of her own. On the Iranian side, the top scorer was Z. Giveh with 14 points in her bag. Giveh was supported by P. Zare who posted 11 points for Iran.
