Vietnam loses three-set quarter-final match to China – Volleyball News

In pursuit of their dreams of winning the 12th gold-medal at the Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship, the Chinese team displayed a stellar performance in the quarter-final match on Wednesday, September 21. They edged out Vietnam in straight
sets of 25-19, 25-12, 25-15 and successfully reserved a berth in the semi-finals.
The impressive strike of Yang Junjing made a great difference for China. She did exceptionally well and chipped in a match-high 18 points. Equally talented, h*i Ruoqi, followed her with 16 points, while Zhang Lei added 12 points. Hue Pham Thi Kim of Vietnam
put up a great effort for her team. She clipped double-figure score of 14 but the rest of the players on her side could not create any buzz. They failed to match their performance with the Chinese team and dropped the important quarter-final match.
China had the confidence of a six-match winning streak in the competition as they opened the influential match with powerful serves. On the other side of the net, Vietnam stood in front of the tough rival, and seemed under pressure. The Chinese hitters came
from all sides and added quick points. However, Vietnam tried to snatch points from China by using different attack tactics. In this regard, Thi Kim delivered some good cross court shots and raised her team’s score. However, China stopped Vietnam right away
and outclassed the opponent at 25-19.
After dropping the opening set, Vietnam faced more troubles. China forced frequent touch-outs and pushed Vietnam behind. The weak defence of the opponents could not stop China from collecting consecutive points. The duo of Yang Junjing and h*i Ruoqi was
successful throughout the set and totally devastated the challengers. Ruoqi remained offensive and showed no mercy in hitting solid spikes. Meanwhile, Yang Junjing became the centre of attention as her solid blocks restricted Vietnam to a very low score. China
remained remarkably consistent and comfortably cruised past to 25-12 win in the second frame
Vietnam’s chances of winning looked slim but they still continued with their effort and once against challenged China in the third set as the head coach from Vietnam regrouped his players. The formula seemed to be effective as Vietnam picked up an early
lead of 11-6 over China. Nevertheless, the momentum was short lived. China counter attacked via Junjing and retook the control of operations. Vietnam suffered the set-back and experienced another backlash from China in the form of 15-25 defeat in third set.
China’s success in the quarter-final edged out Vietnam from top-4 category of teams. They will now try to seize their chances at the 5th-8th position matches.
