Vietnam to debut in the mixed team event at the Sudirman Cup in China – Badminton News
Vietnam will make their first appearance in the mixed team event at the Sudirman Cup, which is set to kick-off in Qingdao, China, on Monday, May 22.
The Sudirman cup is the biggest mixed team event in the world which is conducted by the World Badminton Federation (BWF). This time the championship is going to be contested in China, which is regarded as the leading Badminton nation on the planet.
There will be 33 countries contesting in this prestigious event. The teams are divided into four groups. Twelve teams are included in the first group, while eight teams will contest in the second and third group. Five teams will form the fourth group.
China has consecutively won the last three editions of this championship and will be the favourite in the upcoming edition also, as the Chinese team will have an advantage playing at home.
According to the draws conducted by BWF, Vietnam will be competing with South Africa, Sweden and Bulgaria in the group 3B. Vietnam has luckily found an easy group as compared to other groups where China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Korea will be the dominant
nations.
The Vietnam team is comprised on young and experienced shuttlers, including the top seed in Men’s Singles, Nguyen Tien Minh. Along with Tien Minh, Bui Bang Duc, Nguyen Thi Sen, Dai Manh Thang, Thai Thi Hong Gam and Vu Thi Trang will battle in the event.
The Sudirman Cup is organised once in every two years. It is the only event of BWF in which male and female shuttlers play together. The first edition of this team championship was held in 1989 and 28 countries participated in the first edition. At the moment,
almost 50 countries from around the world, have worked hard to participate in this event.
Individual or independent players are not allowed to participate in the Sudirman Cup. All players take part in this event by becoming a part of the national team of their respected country. Every match in the Sudirman Cup is comprised in the Men’s Singles,
Women’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles categories.
