  1. Vietnamese food like Thai are influenced by the Chinese. Spring roll too!

    Vietnam is a subtropical country, no 4 seasons unlike China. Spring Rolls have their origins in the annual Chinese New Year celebration, called the "Spring Festival". The first spring rolls featured fresh vegetables from the spring harvest; meat was added later.


  2. Other that originating in Vietnam?

    Actually the french colonized Vietnam, and they left a lasting impression on the culture.  Instead of using Asian style characters to write, they use actual letters like we do, all be it in a way no westerner will understand without difficulty but letters none the less.

    The french also brought bread and western cooking techniques to Vietnam, they may have had a role in inventing the rice pancake which is used to make the Vietnamese spring roll. It was probably a Vietnamese spin off the french crepe.
