  1. Personally I think homework is ridiculous, kids are in school for 6-8 hrs a day, when they return home from school that should be time spent with family, friends, and relatives.

  2. I totally disagree with misingora... Teachers in schools shirk from work and just put the burden on kids by giving homework so that they can sit pretty. There is a lot of burden on children and parents alike, to get better grades and percentages.I remember my parents telling me son study now and you will earn a lot...I'm among the highest echelons of my profession in the country(academically speaking..) but hardly any money and I find it difficult sometimes to even provide the never ending demands of the school where my child studies... They hardly teach the kids at school and at the end of the day it is us....the parents...who have to help the child to make him finish home-work. And my child studies in one of the top schools of the city...

    No homework please...........

  3. The school day is long for small children.  However, they are often the ones who want homework because it makes them feel important to be like their older siblings.  Children come home from school tired, hungry, and ready to play.  As they get a bit older, a little homework is good, especially if a parent supervises when it is done and if it's done well. It is good for the parent to be involved and know what their child is learning. It's a good discipline for the child to learn to work independently.  Homework should be increased as the child grows.  In college, students are expected to spend more time on homework than they spend in class.  So the increase in homework through the public school years prepares the child to study on their own.

  4. home work sucks. it doesnt help them

  5. Personally, as a parent, I am frustrated with the amount of work my child is required to do now a days. She is finishing up the 4th grade and it is just getting crazy. She is covering stuff in school at this level that I remember having at 7th and 8th grade level!! It is crazy!

When my child first started going the first few years, I was all for her having some homework on top of what she covers during the day. I wanted her to have the opportunity to keep up and keep ahead of things. But now, it seems to be cutting into family time and it ticks me off. Enough is enough! One of these days our kids are going to be pushed so much that more of them are going to crack under the pressure. I know my child has to deal with more peer pressure and faculty pressure than I ever did. I am beside myself at times on this issue.

I think they should all back off our kids a bit and let them have the chance to be kids!

Thing is, what as parents can we do about it other than buck the system. The squeaky wheel doesn't always get the grease when it comes to stuff like this. Sometimes it gets the shaft.

If you have any ideas on how to effectively curb this, let me know.....
