Vigilant Aaron Ramsey closing in on Arsenal return
Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has said he will not rush his first-team return after playing 45 minutes with the reserves on Tuesday 23 November.
The midfielder, who has been out since February with a broken leg, started against Wolverhampton Wanderers' reserves before being replaced at half-time along with fellow returnee Manuel Almunia.
Arsenal were goalless as long as the midfielder was on the pitch, going on to win the game 2–1 in the second half, but Ramsey was happy just to have featured after his nine-month absence.
"Obviously it is great to be back playing my first game and I felt it went quite well," the 19-year-old told Arsenal's official website on Wednesday, admitting that he has training to do before reaching full fitness. "In training, I felt
I was as fit as all the rest, but being out there proved I was a bit behind. That's to be expected and the more games I play, the more match fit I am going to get."
Ramsey, who joined Arsenal in 2007 from Cardiff City, made important contributions to Arsene Wenger's team during last season before suffering his injury after a tackle by Stoke City's Ryan Shawcross.
The Welshman said he hoped to remain free of set-backs during his recovery process.
"After you have been out for nine months, your muscles are still adapting to the hard training and games, so for some players they can get injuries which set them back for a few weeks, but hopefully I can stay injury free."
Wenger will wait cautiously to introduce the midfielder to Arsenal's first-team, and Ramsey said he was in no hurry to reach full fitness.
"I have another few reserve games planned, with 60 minutes and then a full game — then I can try to fight for my place again. I am not going to jump back in; it is going to take a bit of time."
