Vijay Mallya believes Force India can fight for fifth place in 2013 championship – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya has said that they can fight for fifth place in the 2013 Formula 1 World Championship after competing well with McLaren in the season until now.
Paul di Resta of the Silverstone based squad has performed remarkably well in the season so far. He is standing at 8th place in the drivers’ championship with 26 points. Besides, he is ahead of Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and behind his major opponent, Romain
Grosjean of Lotus. He impressed everyone with his amazing fourth place finish in the Bahrain GP after taking a start from 5th grid slot.
After such a convincing start, Mallya has said that they are determined to fight for the fifth position in this year’s constructors’ championship. In addition, he stated that they are in a very good position to achieve their aims in the season ahead.
“In our first European race, two weeks ago in Barcelona, the team once again showed its form,” he said. “A strong points finish by Paul di Resta ensured we held on to fifth position in the World Championship, and we look capable of fighting at this level
in races to come.”
It is to be noted that Di Resta’s teammate, Adrian Sutil has not been able to come up to the expectations of his team in the season until now and has struggled in most of the races. However, Mallya has expressed full confidence in Sutil and said that they
are hoping to attain good points in the forthcoming race which is going to be held at Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo this weekend.
“With a little help from Lady Luck, who hasn't been much on Adrian Sutil's side lately, we will be able to score points with both cars and firmly establish our position. So far our weakness has been failing to get both cars home in points and it's something
we need to remedy,” he added.
The British team came 7th in the last year’s constructors’ championship, ahead of Williams and behind Sauber. Let’s see how they perform in the season ahead and whether they will be able to attain their targets or not.
