Vijay Mallya expecting ‘healthy competition’ between Force India drivers in 2012 – Formula 1 news
Sahara Force India team boss Vijay Mallya is expecting to see a ‘healthy competition’ between the team drivers, Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg in the upcoming 2012 F1 season starting off at Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia on March 18, 2011.
Both the drivers will step into their second season in F1 and will start their first season together as teammates at the season opener this Sunday.
However, Hulkenberg had been in the team as a test driver during the last year after he was being dropped by Williams for 2011.
Mallya is hoping that the team drivers will do well in the forthcoming season while making the best use of the new car VJM05.
“Driver-wise I'm extremely excited by our line-up this year,” he said. “Nico and Paul are both young and hungry, and will ensure we squeeze every last thousandth from the car. There will be some healthy in-house rivalry, too, which will be fascinating to
watch, and I believe that we will get better results in the long run by having two drivers pushing each other on.”
Furthermore, Mallya believed that his team had produced the best car for the season ahead. He also said that Andrew Green had done an incredible job with his technical team to design an excellent and stable car.
“I would even go as far as saying the VJM05 is the best engineered car we have produced and the detail of the design is beautiful. It's a car we believe can help us take another step forward,” said Mallya.
Besides, he said that he would stay careful for making any kind of forecasts about the upcoming season as there were many things which were still unseen. In addition, he said that after the analysis they could expect very close grids in the approaching season
and particularly concerning the teams which were at the top of the midfield.
Nonetheless, he said that their aim was the same as before which was to keep making progress as a team and to be able to challenge the existing top contenders which were ahead of them.
