Vijay Mallya feels positive for 2012 Formula 1 season ahead – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya is feeling positive that they will be able to achieve some good results in the forthcoming 2012 Formula 1 season.
Mallya said that they have been working really hard on the issue of tyre management so as to improve their performance in the upcoming races while he said that it is very hard to make any kind of predictions about the approaching races as there have been
six different winners in the first six grands prix.
“I believe this unpredictability has crept in largely because of the tyres and it's making for some entertaining races. That's why we're working especially hard to understand the tyres better to make sure we get the best out of them,” he is quoted as saying
by Autosport.
Force India are currently standing at 8th place in the constructors’ championship with 28 points. Moreover, they are 22 points ahead of Toro Rosso and 13 points behind their main rival, Sauber-Ferrari.
On the other hand, their drivers, Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg have also shown some reasonable performances in the season until now as they are currently at 11th and 15th place in the drivers’ championship. Besides, Mallya said that they have performed
quite convincingly in the season so far.
“Both drivers are delivering what we expect of them and we're gaining some momentum, just as we did last year,” he said.
Additionally, he said that they are confidently looking forward to perform well in 2012 Canadian Grand Prix which is to be held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10. He added that their target is to reduce the gap to the midfield while he
said that they have got the potential to score more points.
“We have our eyes focused on closing the gap further and I believe we have the pace to get on terms with them in the points race soon,” he said.
Over and above, he said that they have been trying their best to make the essential developments and the necessary preparations to improve the pace of their car for the upcoming season in order to secure a competitive position in this year’s championship.
