Vijay Mallya puts Force India up for sale, Sahara India tipped to be interested buyers – Formula 1 news
Owner of Formula 1 team, Vijay Mallya is reportedly looking to sell his Formula 1 team.
Mallya bought the F1 team back in October 2007 by purchasing Spyker F1 for reportedly €88 million.
Mallya recently closed his low budget airline service known as Kingfisher red, and now is actively looking for buyers for his F1 team.
Force India did struggle in the initial seasons, going through 29 races without scoring points, but when Giancarlo Fisichella finished second in the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix, Force India won their first Formula 1 championship points and podium place. Force
India also scored points when Adrian Sutil finished fourth and in the process set the team’s fastest lap at the Italian Grand Prix.
The 2011 season for Force India was much better than its previous years. The team announced their reserve driver Paul di Resta promotion to a race seat and also launched their new car VJM04 which was developed with McLaren Applied technologies and Mercedes-Benz
High Performance Engines.
Force India are currently taking part in the 2011 constructors’ championship, and are doing really well compared to their previous showings. They are placed at the 5th position, almost sure to finish at least 6th at
the end of the season.
There have been reports in the Asian Age that Sahara India Pariwar, a major Indian Conglomerate business organisation is interested in buying the team from Mallya. Sahara India already owns an Indian Premier League cricket team and sponsors India’s national
cricket and hockey teams.
Sahara India founder Subrata Roy is reported to be interested in the promotion of Indian drivers in Formula 1 after he strikes a deal with Mallya and co-owner of Force India F1 Michiel Mol.
Let’s see whether this rumour materialises into something substantial and Force India is sold to another group.
Force India will be taking part in the 2011 Japanese Grand Prix scheduled to take place from October 7-9 at the legendary Suzuka circuit.
