Vijay Mallya says Force India must keep up consistency in remainder of 2012 season – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya thinks that they should keep up the level of consistency in the remainder of 2012 Formula 1 season and is hoping to reduce the gap to Sauber in the constructors’ championship.
The Silverstone based team is currently standing at 7th position in the constructors’ rankings with 75 points. Moreover, they are ahead of Williams and are behind their main rival, Sauber. Although the Swiss team has a strong lead over them, nevertheless,
they are positively looking forward to perform well in the season ahead so as to secure a good position in this year’s championship fight.
Mallya said that they have performed quite convincingly in the last few races and are aiming to show up stronger in the Japanese Grand Prix which is to be held at Suzuka this weekend.
Moreover, he said that even though they have not been able to achieve promising results at Suzuka until now. Nonetheless, he asserted that they have full confidence in their update package this time and they can surely attain competitive points in the next
race.
“Historically Suzuka has never been our best track, but hopefully this time the team has something up its sleeve,” Mallya said. “I think we have been pretty consistent on most tracks this season so we are quietly confident that we can perform well this weekend.
I certainly hope we can pull some rabbits out of the hat in Japan and Korea and come away with some more points.”
In addition, he said that they just need a little bit of luck to challenge the Hinwil based team in the championship battle and they are trying their best to close the gap in the remaining six grands prix.
“As I've said before that little bit of luck has eluded us,” he added. “Hopefully it will come to us one day, because we've shown the pace of the car.”
Besides, he said that despite facing few difficulties in the previous races, they are optimistically eying to secure podium finishes in the forthcoming races.
It will be interesting to see how Force India pair of drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta, performs in the approaching races.
