Vijay Mallya says Force India will improve after new updates – Formula 1 news
Vijay Mallya has revealed that Force India will now look to step up its development on the 2012 car for the European leg of the season.
Force India had a pretty good 2011 season and the development of the car had a big role in its success. The team had a solid base car and a substantial aerodynamic upgrade before the European season aided the team to close in on the gap on Renault for the
Constructors’ Championship standings.
Mallya says that the team will look to do the same in 2012 and improve on their performances as the season progresses. He also admitted that the Mugello test as beneficial as it will turn out to be for Force India but other teams will have improved and updated
their cars as well.
“Now that the European season is upon us, we should be able to bring through more updates to the car,” Mallya said. “That will start this weekend when we run with some of the new parts we evaluated in Mugello last week. However, we have to remember that
most teams will make a development step for Barcelona so it remains to be seen how this will impact on our relative performance.”
Mallya elaborated that the team is not only looking to do developments but overall they are pushing hard to maximise the strategies and the drivers have done a pretty good job so far in the races. The margin between teams is very tight and if the team can
come up with performances like they did in Bahrain there is no doubt that the team will be able to remain in the hunt for points for the Spanish Grand Prix.
Paul di Resta drove well during the Bahrain Grand Prix by pulling off a two stop strategy. He started his race from 10th place and finished the race at 6th leaving behind Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton.
It was a great achievement and came at the right time, with the weather usually never as coarse as it was during the Bahrain GP in Europe, Force India will look to use the two stop strategy to better effect.
