Vijay Mallya says Indian Grand Prix promoters confident track will be ready on time – Formula 1 news
Force India team boss Vijay Mallya has recently updated the media that Indian Grand Prix promoters and the owners of the track are confident for the completion of the track’s construction before the scheduled date of the Grand Prix.
He added that the owners of the Indian racetrack have said that they are hopeful everything will be ready on time.
Talking to reporters, Mallya said, “Everything may not be 100 per cent in terms of the grandstands and the spectator facilities, but the technical areas, the pits, the motorhomes, the paddock club and of course the track itself seems to be almost ready already.”
The Indian Grand Prix is scheduled for the first time in Formula 1 history. The construction of the racetrack is still in progress. Mallya discussed the new 2011 F1 Indian racetrack and stated that the track engineers designed a massive grandstand with a
special cantilevered roof. In addition, he mentioned that the construction of track is taking a lot of time and there is a possibility that some spectators’ facilities will not be fully ready on time.
Apart from that, the Force India-Mercedes boss also discussed that the Indian motorsport federation president Vicky Chandhok is worried about the proposed 2012 F1 race in India in the month of April. Chandhok said that the extreme temperature of April will
not be suitable for the track, so the International Automobile Federation (FIA) must focus on the date of the next season’s Indian race.
Mallya went on to mention, “It's doable. It's going to be hot, but it's doable. It's in May that it gets into the 40s [degrees], but it certainly will be in the high 30s. We'll discuss it at the World Motor Sport Council, the next one is before Singapore.”
On the other hand, Mallya mentioned that he has been encouraged with Force India team’s performance in the 2011 Hungarian Grand Prix, where both of the drivers Adrian Sutil and Paul di Resta made impressive runs on the grid.
Let’s see how both drivers perform in the second part of the 2011 Formula 1 season following their successful Budapest race weekend.
