Vijay Mallya thinks Force India can still beat Sauber – Formula 1 news
Force India team principal, Vijay Mallya thinks that they can still beat their main rival, Sauber in the remainder of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
The Silverstone based team has performed quite convincingly in the season so far and has been deemed as one of the most competitive mid-field contender. Even though, they are currently 27 points behind the Swiss team, nevertheless, Mallya believes that they
have got the potential to challenge their major opponent in the remaining four races of the ongoing season.
Furthermore, he said that they are eagerly looking forward to perform well in the 2012 Indian Grand Prix and are aiming to attain competitive result. In addition, he said that there are still four races left in the current season and they are confident about
closing the gap to Sauber.
Although, he said that it will be very hard to catch up the Hinwil based team but he asserted that they are making the essential preparations to narrow down the gap in the forthcoming races.
“I remember how proud I felt last year to see our cars racing in India in the colours of Indian flag,” Mallya said. “It was a moment I had dreamed about and a great sporting achievement for our country. To score points was icing on cake. This year I would
like to go one better and see both our cars in the points - at the very least so that we can give our fans something to smile about. The gap to Sauber is now 27 points. It's a big lead, but not impossible to catch them before the end of the year.”
It will be important to mention that the Swiss squad has secured four podium finishes in the season so far. On the other hand, Force India have not achieved even one podium finish. Nevertheless, their drivers, Nico Hulkenberg and Paul di Resta have performed
impressively well and have scored reasonable points with admirable consistency in the season until now.
Let’s see how they perform in this weekend’s race which is to be held at Buddh International Circuit and whether they will be able to beat their major competitor or not.
