Vijay Singh, Carl Pettersson and Camilo Villegas added to the Greenbrier Classic’s field
Vijay Singh, Carl Pettersson and Camilo Villegas have been added to the published field of the Greenbrier Classic, at the Old White TPC, in White Sulphur Springs, slated to start from Thursday, July 5, 2012.
The announcement was made by the tournament officials last week through a tweet on the events official account.
Singh is one of the biggest additions to this year’s edition, as his presence will mark the attendance of the third World Golf Hall of Fame member in the tournament.
Tom Watson and Phil Mickelson are the other players who are already confirmed to appear this week.
He is currently looking to return to his form that once allowed him to win 34 PGA Tour events. Since his win in the Deutsche Bank Championship, in September, 2008, he has not been able to give a tough competition to his rivals.
According to him, he just needs to work a bit extra on bringing consistency in his game and record a good score in each of the four rounds of any event for a win.
In the meantime, Pettersson is enjoying the best of his form and recorded four top-10 finishes in the 16 events that he has played so far in the 2012 PGA Tour season.
He also won the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, which was the fifth PGA Tour victory of his career. He is currently listed at the 10th position in the FedExCup standings.
Moreover, he has surged to the 40th position in the Official World Golf Rankings. Therefore, the tournament will now feature 13 of the top-50 players in the world.
On the other hand, Villegas is not enjoying the best of his form and missed the cut seven times in the 16 appearances that he has made on the PGA Tour so far, in the current season.
Apart from that, he also does not have a good track record at the Greenbrier Classic, as he made his only cut last year and finished tied for the 71st position in the end.
Therefore, he will have to work really hard if he wants to improve his track record in the event, as well as on the PGA Tour this year.
