Vijay Singh's new putting grip might be turning on the magic
Vijay Singh has been shooting some low scores recently. He was close to winning at the recently concluded Frys.com Open but ended up with a T4 finish.
The Fijian has been winless in the last two seasons on the PGA Tour and it looks as if that drought might be over, owing to a change in his putting grip at the McGladrey Classic.
If we look at his performances this season, they have been very good indeed. The veteran has missed only three cuts and has been very consistent throughout the season.
He has five top-10 finishes as well but he has had some problems on the greens. However, with a change in the putting, things will most probably turn around for the former world number one.
Singh is being considered as one of the favourites at Seaside course for the McGladrey Classic. This is largely due to his vast experience and the fact that Seaside course has one of trickiest greens.
Vijay putted beautifully, recently, at the BMW Championship and at the Frys.com Open. With experience and skill, it seems that Vijay will win his first title on the PGA Tour since the last two years.
“If you look at the starts I’ve had and the wins I’ve had, no I have not,” Singh told Golf Channel. “I wish my percentage was a little better. Yes and no. I think I can do a lot better, could have done a lot better and I still can. … I’m just enjoying it”.
Vijay knows that his putting has improved immensely and it is all going to be about putting at the Seaside course as the experts are predicting.
“The problem was my putting on the weekend,” said Singh. “I felt really weird with my putting stroke. It worked good for two days and (did not) under the gun. But this week has been looking good. I’ve changed my grip a little bit and it’s flowing really
freely”.
However, Vijay is not the only big renowned player who will be seen on the field. People like Zach Johnson will also be vying for the title.
