Vijay Singh leads the BMW Championship ahead of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy
For the last couple of weeks, all the hype has been about the rivalry between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. However, Fijian Vijay Singh rose under the shadows of the two, to lead the BMW Championship after round two.
Vijay Singh shot a 6-under, 66 to take a one-shot lead, ahead of Tiger Woods, Ryan Moore and Rory McIlroy.
Fijian had the perfect start on Friday, when the birdied his first three holes. However, at the fourth, a slip in concentration forced him to drop a shot, he bogeyed on the fourth.
Nevertheless, it was a steady performance after that. He also birdied the 9th, 11th, 15th, and 18th hole to finish with 6-under par.
"I have got to keep it going," Singh said. "I have been playing well for two days for a while now, but I need four days of good playing. Sooner or later, I think four days is going to happen. And hopefully, it starts this week".
Vijay is chasing his first title on the PGA Tour for the last four years. It was back in the playoffs of 2008 when he won a tournament on the PGA Tour.
Everything seems to be nicely poised for the veteran. He just needs to keep repeating such performances over the course of the next two days.
At the PGA Championship, Singh was in the lead after the first two rounds but on the weekend he blew it off. Singh needs to put up solid two rounds on Saturday and Sunday.
Fijian himself did not know what is stopping him from putting four solid rounds.
"I have no idea," he said. "I guess I want it so bad that I get in my own way. So I just have to get out of my own way and just play. Last weekend I played better, but I didn't play well the first two days. Hopefully, I can go out there and just shoot two comfortable rounds this week".
Golf, however, has found a new rivalry between Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. This is exactly what was required to regenerate the interest of the audience in the game of golf.
