Vijay Singh remains in contention at the HP Byron Nelson Championship - Golf News
Vijay Singh carded a four-under par 66 in the third round of the HP Byron Nelson Championship at the TPC Four Seasons Resort in Irving, Texas to tie for the fifth place on Saturday, May 19, 2012.
According to golf commentators, Singh could have done even better, if he had avoided three bogeys scored during the round.
Overall, he managed to score five birdies and an amazing eagle against three bogeys to settle two strokes behind the leader Jason Dufner.
Despite the ups and downs throughout the round, he believes that he did really well, especially in the presence of strong winds on the course.
“It wasn't easy at all,” he said. “You need to control the ball and obviously the ball flight. The Bermuda jumps a little bit too, and you don't know when it's going to jump. I'm really happy with my round, had a good finish there”.
In addition, he also told that the weather continuously changed throughout the day making the conditions even worse.
“That's what happens over here, gusty winds,” said Singh, who has recorded a total of 58 professional wins in his career. “Sometimes you hit a drive, there is no wind, and the next guy gets up and it's gusting 20, but you've got to manage the ball flight,
that's the key over here”.
Singh has been struggling for the last four years to register a win on any of the tours around the world.
There was a time when he used to win at least once or twice a year and was a sensation in each of the tournament he used to play.
However, the year 2008 proved to be the last one prior to his fall from the grace. The 2008 Chevron World Challenge was the last tournament he won.
He now looks confident to end his winning drought through a win in the HP Byron Nelson Championship, as he is in a very good position to make a good run in the final round and take the trophy home.
Dicky Pride, J. J. Henry and Jason Day are currently holding the second position with a seven-under par score each.
