Vijay Singh seems to return to his form – Golf News
After Jason Dufner recorded the second victory of his career at the Byron Nelson Championship last week, the PGA Tour now moves to Colonial Country Club for another competition, Crowne Plaza Invitational, scheduled to start from May 24, 2012.
In the meantime, Vijay Singh is trying to get back on track after the four-year slump in his career.
Singh is among the best players that the game of golf has ever produced. Till 2008, he recorded a total of 58 professional wins including 34 on the PGA Tour and 13 on the European Tour.
He also has three major title wins registered to his name, including the 2000 Masters Tournament and PGA Championship in 1998 and 2004.
The year 2008 is considered as one of the best of his careers, as he recorded a total of five professional wins throughout the season on different tours around the world.
In the meantime, it is also considered the most unlucky year, as his streak of winning tournaments each year finished after he recorded a win in the 2008 Chevron World Challenge.
That was the time when he started losing grip on his game and went on losing tournaments one by one.
A time came when the golf commentators started believing that Singh’s career had come to an end and he will never be able to get back to form.
However, Singh is now trying his best to prove his critics wrong, as he tied for the ninth position in the HP Byron Nelson Championship with the help of great display of game on the course.
It was a special performance considering the fact that he was coming for two consecutive missed cuts in the Wells Fargo Championship and Players Championship.
He currently ranks second for hitting greens in regulation on the PGA Tour, which makes him a good contender at the upcoming Crowne Plaza Invitational.
However, the golf analysts believe that his driving accuracy of 55% can become a huge hurdle in his way of ending the four-year winning drought.
One of the amazing facts of his game is that he can still gain the distance of 315 yards at the age of 49.
