Vijetha K. trounces Siri Chandana to surge into main round of Junior National Badminton Championship
India’s emerging player Vijetha K. showed a strong character in the arena when she secured her place in the main round of Girl’s Singles U19 category after defeating Siri Chandana O. in qualifying round battle at 37th Junior National Badminton
Championship-2012 in India, on Sunday, November 11.
The aggressive Vijetha, who was seventh seed in qualifying round draw of the tournament, played with incredible speed and controlled the pace of the game throughout the battle and won it in just 20 minutes.
Seventh seeded Vijetha was in superb form as she did not commit unforced mistakes in both games and registered a comprehensive win over Chandana in straight sets with a stunning margin on the board.
The lower ranked Chandana was helpless against the powerful shots of her experienced opponent and she failed to resist throughout the battle. She eventually went down without showing a good fight.
Vijetha played positive badminton with excellent control in her shots and managed to take over the charge from initial points of the first set.
The tempo of the rallies was at the highest level in first set and Vijetha impressed local crowd with her lofty skills in opening half.
The higher ranked Vijetha proceeded with a stunning speed in the first half and stayed in lead on the board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the battle progressed in the similar fashion as Vijetha did not let her opponent to get closer on score board at any stage.
Vijetha was very calm and composed on court showing no sign of pressure and she clinched the first game with a staggering total of 21-9.
In the second game, Chandana tried her best to play positive badminton in the starting part but could not create pressure on her in-form opponent.
In the meanwhile, Vijetha displayed her incredible skills on court by picking the bird timely and remained dominant until the break.
After the interval, Vijetha did not let her rival to take over the control of rallies and stayed patient all the way to win the set with a considerable margin of 21-16.
The lofty Vijetha won this qualifying round match in straight sets of 20 minutes with a remarkable 21-9 and 21-16 score on the board.
