Vikings' Coach Leslie Frazier's job secured till 2012 – NFL News
A dreadful season is coming to a close for Minnesota Vikings. Coach Leslie Frazier however, is not going anywhere with sources close to the talks revealing to Jeremy Fowler of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that the head coach will
be in charge of the Vikings for 2012.
The Minnesota Vikings have won just two games this season as injuries and poor performances from the players have seen the franchise drop to the bottom of the National Football Conference North. The Vikings current record makes
for poor reading at 2-11 with the team close to reaching an unwanted milestone of their worst season result since 1984.
According to sources the Vikings Coach who already had received a vote of confidence the previous month, in a private chat with franchise owner Zygi Wilf was told that his job is secured for the next season.
The Vikings hired Frazier as defensive coordinator in 2007 promoting him to interim Coach when the franchise severed then Coach Brad Childress’s contract before the end of the 2010 season. Childress is still receiving payments
from Minnesota Vikings amounting to $ 5 Million.
Frazier ended 2010 with a 3-3 record and reached agreement with the Vikings to become the head coach in 2011. This season the Vikings have continuously struggled to win games losing most with a margin of just six or seven points
and a bit of luck could have seen them challenging for the playoffs. Keeping Frazier for the Vikings makes financial as well as footballing sense for the franchise.
Severing the Coach’s contract will result in another hefty payout essentially paying two Coach’s for not doing their job. Frazier also did not get an opportunity to bring his own players into the roster and must be given the chance
to create a team in his own image.
The Vikings are currently on a five game losing streak. They lost to division rivals Detroit Lions on Sunday and could have even completed an audacious comeback in the second half. Replacement quarterback Joe Webb stepped in for
struggling Christian Ponder and immediately got the Vikings back in the game. A last minute fumble one-yard from the end-zone however crushed any dreams of a third Vikings victory this season.
The Vikings will now face New Orleans Saints, Washington Red Skins and Chicago Bears in their final three games and Frazier will be hoping his team get some victories under their belts to avoid finishing this season as the worst
of the franchise’s history.
