Vikings' RB Peterson desperate to get back on field for Sunday – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson does not wish to remain on the sidelines any longer and has made himself available for selection against New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Peterson took part in practice on Thursday at the Vikings Eden Prairie training centre and will be evaluated on Friday by the management staff. On his part however, the running back is pleased with the progress and just wants to
help his side snap their five game losing streak.
"I love this game, so no matter if we were 2-11 or whatever, if I'm healthy I'm going to go out and play," Peterson said. "That's been my mindset from the beginning. Three weeks off, I'm going to be a part of it."
The highest paid running back in the National Football League has missed three games since picking up a knee sprain in game week 11 against Oakland Raiders just a week after signing his new contract. The Vikings went on to lose
that encounter 27-21 and have since lost three more games to bring their record to 2-11.
Peterson has admitted himself that he is only 85 percent fit right now and the management may well want to rest him so as not to risk aggravating the injury further yet Peterson is determined to play.
"I'm like 85 percent," he said. "But I'll be able to take the pain and whatever it is that comes with it."
Coach Leslie Frazier who has overlooked a season that with a bit of luck would have seen Vikings competing for the playoffs has praised the professionalism of Peterson and expects him to take part on Sunday.
"The way he's moving around, some of the things that really concerned him a week ago at this time don't seem to concern him much, nor does it concern us," Frazier said. "So if he has another good day (Friday), we should be in the
clear."
The Coach can also look forward to the return to full fitness of regular quarterback Christian Ponder who struggled the previous week with a hip-pointer. Ponder took part in full practice on Wednesday and Thursday and is confirmed
to start against the Saints as the Vikings will look to end their season on a high.
