Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier making waves in Minnesota
It hasn’t been long since the Minnesota Vikings fired Head Coach Brad Childress. Leslie Frazier, who was the defensive coordinator and assistant head coach, took over from Childress. However, it was just an interim position until two days ago. Now Frazier
has come to an agreement with the Vikings, and will continue to reign as the head coach.
As soon as his position was confirmed, Frazier got to work shaking things up throughout the team. The new head coach has made a few changes in his staff. Darrell Bevell continues as the offensive coordinator for now, but that could change in the near future.
Kevin Rogers has been fired. Rogers acted as the quarterbacks coach for the Vikings. Offensive line coach Pat Morris and his assistant Jim Hueber are also no longer with the club. Frazier has been meeting with the coaching staff since his position as head
coach was confirmed. At present, there is nothing to suggest whether Frazier will continue making changes to his staff, or if the remaining staff will keep their positions.
Special Teams coordinator Brian Murphy remains on the staff, but his position is only as certain as Bevell’s. Both coaches are with the Vikings for now but there are no guarantees. Frazier would also need to find a replacement for himself and hire a defensive
coordinator. There are indications that Fred Pagac could be promoted to that position. When Frazier took on the duties as the interim head coach, Pagac became the interim defensive coordinator.
There is also the possibility that former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary could join the Vikings staff and take over from Pagac. Singletary could also hold the assistant head coach title. Singletary was fired by the 49ers after the franchise had
one of their worst-ever seasons in the NFL. The coaching staff is also short of a running-back coach, following the departure of Eric Bieniemy.
