Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier says job not under threat - NFL News
The Vikings are 3-12 as they prepare to end the regular season with the visit to the Mall of America Field of division rivals Chicago Bears and a win is necessary if Coach Leslie Frazier wishes to keep his job.
The Vikings Coach is under increasing pressure after a poor 2011 season with the Vikings regressing from last season after previous Coach Brad Childress was sacked before the end of the 2010 regular season.
Frazier in his press conference after taking the Vikings practice session on Thursday was upbeat and dismissed any chances of him not returning for the 2012 season.
"Not unless you don't have confidence in what you're doing and where you're going and the people that you're working for," Frazier said Thursday. "I have confidence in my bosses. I've got great bosses, and they've been very supportive."
The Vikings under Frazier had their season hampered by injuries to key players and have become the rest of the league’s favourite punching bags. Things got worse when at the end of the season star running back Adrian Peterson succumbed to multiple injuries
and was not able to take part through the whole course of the season.
Peterson currently is set to undergo surgery for a knee sprain and is doubtful to be fit for the start to the 2012 season. The Vikings gave Peterson a big contract at the start of the 2011 season making him the highest paid running back in the National Football
League.
Another loss next week against Chicago Bears will give this season’s team the unwanted title of the worst Vikings team in franchise history.
Leslie Frazier feels that his job had never been under threat by the owners Zygi Wilf and Mark Wilf.
"We talk about now. We also talk about the future, and it's not a question," Frazier said, referring to his status. "I'm being completely honest with you. My job security has never been an issue other than when I'm talking to you guys. That's the truth.
We're going to get this thing turned eventually. We'll get it done."
Frazier was made head coach after Brad Childress was fired last season for another poor season. Frazier at the time was the Vikings defensive coordinator and took the Vikings to 3-3 as interim Coach before becoming permanent this season.
The Coach’s job may well be safe till the next season as the Vikings are still paying off Childress’s severance pay and another huge payoff to Frazier will most likely stop the owners from sacking.
