Vikings’ QB Christian Ponder misses training but hopeful to make Lions game – NFL News
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder missed training on Wednesday but management at Vikings are hopeful that their star rookie quarterback can make it for Sunday’s game against division rivals and playoff contenders Detroit
Lions.
Coach Leslie Frazier is highly concerned about the fitness of Ponder and let him rest during Wednesday’s training while trainers work to get the rookie back into top shape. Frazier believes that Ponder is more than likely to feature
during Sunday’s game against Detroit Lions saying
"He's a guy that has relied on his mobility at times, and (hip pointers) can be a little tricky," Frazier said. "But trainers are telling me that he should be fine."
Ponder himself is optimistic on a recovery before Sunday and praised his team’s trainers and medical staff for their assistance
"I'm not too concerned," Ponder said. "I have been working ever since the game ended on Sunday with (the Vikings' head trainer). He has done a great job, and there has been a lot of progress since it first happened. Monday, I was
pretty sore. Yesterday, I was pretty sore, but today, I feel better."
Ponder took a hit during Sunday’s close fought 35-32 loss to Denver Broncos in game week 13 of the National Football League and was diagnosed with a hip pointer injury. The quarterback finished the game however but was seen putting
more pressure on his left leg and looking uncomfortable as he clutched his right side.
However, Ponder ignored the injury to the very end playing the full match as he covered 381 passing yards, completing 29 out of 47 passes and throwing three touchdown passes with two interceptions but his efforts were not enough
to see Vikings through to just their third victory as Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow rallied his team and two late field goals by Broncos kicker Matt Prater secured victory for Denver.
Vikings will hope that Ponder is ready for Sunday with Joe Webb providing backup for Ponder if he’s unable to make it in time. Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson could also be in contention to start after a two game lay
off due to an ankle sprain.
