Vikings’ RB Adrian Peterson doubtful for Falcons game – NFL News
Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier still does not know whether in-form running back Adrian Peterson will be able to play against Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
The running back who suffered a high ankle sprain during Vikings 21-27 loss to Oakland Raiders on Sunday, missed practice yesterday as he still has a protective boot on the left leg and Coach Leslie Frazier said that the boot will
be removed today and an assessment on Friday will decide whether or not Peterson will play on Sunday.
"If he can't do anything by Friday we wouldn't try and go work him out on Sunday to see if he could be ready to go," Frazier said.
Minnesota Vikings who lie bottom of the National Football Conference North Division with a 2-8 record are likely to not take any risks with their star player’s health since they have nothing left to play for this season.
Peterson got the injury during another Vikings loss this time to Oakland Raiders in game week 11 of the National Football League. The running back’s ankle was caught underneath a defender and became tangled leading to the category
1 sprain.
"I just got my ankle caught up on a defender and it got twisted up pretty bad," Peterson said. "[It's] just my mentality. I'm always going to come out and see what I can do. I guess it was just me trying to convince myself that
I could go back out, but ultimately I couldn't."
The 26 year old has been in fine form this season even though his side has been performing poorly. He has scored 11 rushing touchdowns and a single receiving touchdown covering 872 rushing yards with the highest rushing average
this season.
Vikings have lined up backing running back Toby Gerhart for his first start of the season against Atlanta Falcons if Peterson fails to recover. Gerhart was a fifth round draft pick in 2010 and has just a single start in 25 games
with the form of Peterson keeping the youngster out of the line up.
Vikings have lost their last two games and with a trip to NFC South Division Falcons on Sunday they have a tough task ahead of them.
