Viktor Axelsen beats Eric Pang to secure Men’s Singles title at Yonex Dutch International 2013
Denmark’s future hope Viktor Axelsen stayed on the right track and secured Men’s Singles title after defeating the local shuttler Eric Pang in the final contest of Yonex Dutch International 2013 in Netherlands, on Sunday, April 21.
The aggressive Axelsen, who was top seeded shuttler in Yonex Dutch International, did not show any mercy to the home favourite and third seeded Pang and wrapped up a decent victory in 39 minutes.
The higher ranked Danish shuttler had to put in extra effort to take the first game. However, it was a completely different situation in the second game where he commanded the rallies easily and won the set with a huge margin to end up the contest by putting
up a 24-22 and 21-12 total on the board.
The third seeded Pang, on the contrary, gave a good fight to the higher ranked Axelsen in the opening set and kept her home fans happy by putting up strong show. However, he failed to maintain his focus and eventually bowed down to his rival in straight
sets.
It was a mouth-watering battle in the opening game when both shuttlers played to their maximum potential and remained close without showing respect to each other.
Axelsen tried his level best to play aggressive badminton but failed to get any considerable advantage as his local challenger stayed close until the end of opening half.
After the break, this thrilling contest continued in the similar manner as no one allowed the opponent to take charge of rallies until the score reached at 22-22.
At this critical stage, it was the higher ranked Axelsen who controlled his nerves and remained successful in winning the opening game with a tight 24-22 score on the board.
However, it was a complete different game in the following set when Axelsen played with incredible speed and precision and managed to stay on the driving seat.
Axelsen displayed his lofty craft in the arena by taking the bird early from all corners and maintained his upper hand over his Dutch opponent.
The planned and positive play in the concluding part of second set helped Axelsen to win it with a lopsided 21-12 margin on the board.
