Zenit St. Petersburg winger, Viktor Fayzulin, is hoping to better Khimki FC in their last 16 encounter of the Russian Cup, while also maintaining momentum in the Russian Premier League.
Zenit will play against Khimki in the Moscow region in a bid to cement a quarter-finals berth. The last six meetings between these clubs saw Zenit hammer past the red and blacks five times, while the last match resulted in a stalemate.
Viktor Fayzulin is hoping that Zenit qualify for the quarter-final stages of the Russian Cup by eliminating the home side. Khimki are currently occupying sixteenth position on the league table – in fear of relegation – having won just 4 matches of the 18
played so far.
The 25-year-old revealed that it’s an honour playing under head coach, Luciano Spalletti, and revealed that he admires the Italian’s tactics. The gifted winger is confident of breaking into the first team squad to prove his mettle on the pitch after being
selected for the last two encounters against Kuban Krasnodar and the stalemate at home versus Terek Grozny.
“It's not a friendly game, and the cups. We must win and move on.
Playing at Khimki-Arena is always a pleasure. I hope this will be on Sunday. We did not have to fly away for this game. This is a big plus.” Fayzulin said.
The Russian national believes that the league is becoming difficult with bottom of the table teams pushing into the top-eight category. The winger revealed that Anzhi Makhachkala and Kuban Krasnodar have been prolific this season.
With Zenit also playing in the UEFA Champions League and the Russian Cup, it is always difficult to maintain a good momentum in league.
“We must not lose points, including in Makhachkala. The second round would be an interesting fight for a place in the first eight. This is perhaps the most interesting aspect.” The former Spartak Nalchik winger insisted.
Zenit are currently at the second spot on the league table, just four points behind the league leaders, CSKA Moscow.
