The Russian national tips CSKA Moscow to work hard for the UEFA Champions League tie against Real Madrid and sums up the Armeytsy Russian Premier League performances.
CSKA Moscow assistant manager, Viktor Onopko, has reiterated his desire to reclaim the Russian Premier League title this season and shared his views over a difficult UEFA Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
The former Dynamo Kyiv player revealed that the Koni have all the attributes to better the Spanish outfit in Europe and backed the Armeytsy to progress to the quarter final of the continental tournament.
“CSKA are a high-level club with a big name, a great history (more than 100 years).
“The philosophy here is different. With host of other Russian clubs buying expensive players, CSKA have experienced players. We are a team with soul.” The Russian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
While the Ukrainian national is confident of a difficult match against the Madrid-based club, who have won the European competition record nine times, Onopko expressed his delight upon avoiding http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Barcelona-c39078.
“Real Madrid is a good team but I think Barcelona is better at the moment. These are the best two teams in the world.
“It will be difficult, since we are talking about the game against one of the favourites to win the Champions League, along with Barcelona.” Onopko said
The former Shakhtar Donetsk player admitted that beating Los Blancos would be a difficult task, but at the same time added that anything can happen in football. He revealed that CSKA have claimed a UEFA Cup previously and they
certainly have the confidence to upset the Spanish outfit.
Aside from the European championship, CSKA are currently at the seventh spot on the league table. As things stand, they are six points adrift of the top spot, currently occupied by Zenit St. Petersburg.
Though CSKA Moscow have had a poor second league round, they have been in inspired form during much of the third league round and while Onopko has a lot of respect for their arch rivals, Zenit, he is confident the Koni have enough
firepower to leapfrog the Bomzhi.
