Viktor Troicki dumps Marcel Granollers at Power House World Team Cup
Serbian Viktor Troicki downed Spaniard Marcel Granollers in straight sets to gain the coveted victory for his nation at Power House World Team Cup, a clay court tournament held in Dusseldorf, Germany. He registered a 6-4, 6-4 win
over the 25-year-old Spaniard on Thursday.
Ranked 16th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour rankings, Troicki took one hour and twenty-four minutes to triumph over the Spaniard, ranked 31 places below him, in their third meeting. Granollers won on their
last meeting in Serbia few weeks ago but after this success the Serbian took the lead in their head-to-head series by 2-1.
The Serb smoothly entered the first set and held her opening serve spectacularly. With his exquisite forehands, he held his remaining serves plausibly. Troicki faced zero breakpoints and converted one out of three breakpoint opportunities
to her advantage to clinch the opener with a 6-4 win. He produced a higher first serve share of 69 percent as compared to Granollers’ 58 percent and registered an exceptional 72 percent win on it.
Troicki kept momentum rolling into the final set and held his opening serve spectacularly. He produced a similar first serve share of 64 percent and earned an amazing 75 percent win on it. Later, the Serb lost his serve once but
broke the Spaniard’s serve twice to eventually seal the set by winning six games to four. He saved one out of two breakpoints conceded and converted two out of six breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to help win comfortably.
Granollers on the other hand produced a similar first serve share in the match and saved six out of nine breakpoints faced. He also earned an impressive 64 percent win on his first serve and clobbered equal double faults. However,
the Spaniard found only two breakpoint opportunities and converted one to his advantage which led his country lose the match.
On another court, Germany led Russia by 1-0 as the German Philipp Petzschner trashed Russian Igor Andreev in straight sets.
Petzschner gave four times champions, Germany, a lead in the match by clinch his singles rubber with a 6-2, 6-4 score line in eighty-eight minutes.
