Viktor Troicki humiliates Lleyton Hewitt to move to the third round – Western & Southern Open 2012
Serbia’s world number 32, Viktor Troicki, did not show any respect to the former number one, Lleyton Hewitt of Australia, as he crushed him in the second round of Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati on Wednesday.
The Serbian number three allowed Hewitt to win just two games in the entire match, grabbing it 6-2, 6-0 in only an hour and one minute.
An ideal start was made by Troicki, who snatched a break in the second game and consolidated on it to build a 3-0 lead. There was no strike from either of the two players till 5-2 but then Hewitt failed in holding his serve and
sent down 2-6.
Troicki pounded five aces and 63 percent of the first serves in the opening set, converting 14 of the 17 of them into points. The Serbian player lost eight of the 11 points on the first returns but balanced that by winning 12 of
the 18 on the second ones.
Ranked 32 in the world, Troicki played flawlessly in the second set, as he did not lose even a single game till the end, breaking Hewitt three times and capitalising on all of them to win 6-0.
The Serbian participant did not hit any ace and committed a couple of double faults, maintaining a low first serve percentage of 59. The right-hander lost six of the nine points on the second deliveries. Nevertheless, the 26-year-old
did a brilliant job on the replies to Hewitt’s serves, winning eight of the 10 first and five of the nine second return points in the second set.
Giving an interview to the ATP World Tour after the match, Troicki said, “Today I played great. I’m happy that I won against him. I like his game. He plays pretty flat and clean, which is where I like the ball to be. He’s not such
a big server, so I take advantage of that, so that’s one of the keys.”
He added, “I love when we are playing as a team. I love these competitions. We normally play well in the Davis Cup and the World Team Cup. It’s a special time for all of us. We really enjoy being together and we have a lot of fun.
I guess that’s why we play so good.”
Troicki is drawn to lock horns with the sixth seed, Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina, in the round of 32.
