Viktor Troicki ousts Alex Bogomolov to reach second round – Rogers Cup 2012
Serbian star, Viktor Troicki, defeated Russia’s Alex Bogomolov at the Rogers Cup 2012 on Monday. He nudged up a 6-4, 7-6(5) score line against the world number 58 to power into the round of 32 at this outdoor hard court tournament taking place in Toronto,
Canada.
The Belgrade native displayed brilliant tennis to avenge his loss at the Apia International Sydney against Bogomolov. After pocketing the match in one hour and 49 minutes, Troicki not only extended lead in the FedEx ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Head 2 Head series by 3-1 against the Russian veteran but also progressed into the second round at the Rexall Centre.
Troicki made a nervy entry at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. He suffered the first blow in the second game and went 0-2 down. However, the Serb quickly counterattacked and snatched his break back in the very next game. He not only held his remaining
serves with poise but got the breakthrough in the seventh game, eventually sealing the opener by winning six games to four.
Ranked 33rd in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Troicki carried his rhythm in the following set and got the coveted break in the opening game to take the initial lead. He lost his serve in the very next game but broke Bogomolov’s
again to go 3-2 up. Apart from squandering his edge in the sixth game again, he held his remaining serves and took the set to a tie-breaker. The Serb cruised to a 5-1 lead in it before closing out the set with a 7-6(5) success.
Next challenge for Troicki is the 16th seed, Milos Raonic, who received a first round bye after being a seeded player at this event.
The local wildcard entrant, Vasek Pospisil, will accompany the Serb in the second round. He bounced back to outclass the world number 26, Andreas Seppi, in three sets to advance. The Canadian smacked 10 aces and sealed the match with 112 points. He produced
a lower first serve share of 49 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 63 per cent but impressively marked 42 out of 52 points on it.
