Viktor Troicki overwhelms Jean-Rene Lisnard in the opening round – Monte Carlo Rolex Masters 2012
World number 30, Viktor Troicki of Serbia, had an excellent beginning to his Monte Carlo Rolex Masters campaign, defeating the 32-year-old veteran from Monaco, Jean-Rene Lisnard, in the opening round on Sunday. The unseeded Serbian
took merely 58 minutes to register a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lisnard in an authoritative fashion.
26-year-old Troicki had no real trouble in disposing of the bleak Monacan opponent in straight sets, earning a place in the second round of the ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
He defeated Lisnard right at the same venue last year, formulating a 7-6(4), 6-1, over the local contestant but it was a far too comprehensive victory for the Serbian on Sunday afternoon. He took hold of the momentum early in the contest and then kept building
pace to finish off the match in quick succession to get 2-0 up in the head-to-head series against the Monacan.
With an ordinary serve precision of 55 per cent, Troicki secured 17 out of 23 points and broke his opponent five out of seven times in the match to come out as the winner. Lisnard registered just one break point in the entire contest
and it was not sufficient to take on the belligerence of the hard-hitting Serbian. Troicki clinched 13 out of 23 return points in the match as well, taking the better of Lisnard’s bleak first serve and consolidating his position in the game.
Lisnard suffered the first blow in the opening game of the match, with the unseeded Serbian breaking and then holding his serve to lead 2-0 early. A regular game followed and the Monacan held his remaining serves until the ninth
game when Troicki stung his second break point of the day to close out the opener at 6-3.
Lisnard finally showed some spark in the first game of the following set and registered his only break point of the match to lead 1-0. The rest was an all-Serbian show, with Troicki dominating the bleak opponent completely. He
broke Lisnard’s serve in every single game and rocketed away to victory with a breadstick at 6-1 to clear the opening round of the Monte Carlo Masters.
